New Zealand Offshore Watchkeeper (NZOW)
This qualification entitles you to act as watchkeeper on larger boats, and if you already hold an Inshore Launchmaster certificate it entitles you to operate farther offshore as skipper.
The course consists of nine learning modules. If you have recently done the ILM course with us, you have already done some of these modules. The ILM is a good stepping stone to NZOW.
The NZOW is a large part of the New Zealand Offshore Master course (NZOM), so you won't need to take as much time off work when you go on to NZOM at a Polytechnic.
You will also have to do some practical exercises at sea under the supervision of a qualified skipper. The skipper will sign off your Task Book when you are competent. We do the teaching - the skipper checks to see that it is working.
You will also need to do a Restricted Radar Observer course if you haven't already. This is a four day course and can be done in Auckland, Tauranga, Nelson or Dunedin.
You will also need to do courses in Fire Fighting, and Survival. These can be done in several ports. We suggest you contact M&O Pacific
